At my RE/MAX Convention last week we learned of a new scam that is going around. I wanted to make sure that you are all informed of this potential risk. First, your real estate agent and or title/escrow agent emails are hacked into to. Hackers are looking for closing dates and customers information. Once they have that information they will send an email to the buyer/seller without your agents knowing it. This email will include wiring instructions and possibly a false phone #. Problem is that these wiring instructions are to the hackers accounts. Once wired you will never see your funds again. Make sure you educate yourselves. Never wire money or get wiring instructions via email . Talk to your agent first.
