Barbara Hulsher knows lavender. She makes potpourri with it, uses in herbal balms and soaps and even cooks with it (try her lavender ice cream and cookies).I first met Barbara last year at the Nisqually Valley Home and Garden Show in Yelm.I was impressed with both her display of lavender themed gift and with her extensive knowledge of one of the Pacific Northwest's most fragrant and versatile flowers.Did you know that lavender is in the same family as mint?It grows well in well drained, rocky soil - which we have in our area - and it takes very little care to spread out and bloom.
Barbara and her husband, Jerry have been growing lavender on 10 acres in Roy for more than ten years. They have been featured in several magazines and newspapers around Washington, and they are known all over Puget Sound for their beautiful products and knowledge.May 3rd, Mountain Meadow Lavender Farm officially opens for the season with a little country store from which you can buy lavender starts, dried flowers, soaps, lip balms, culinary spices and many other adorable gift items with the lavender theme.Take a stroll through the lavender fields and ask advice from Barbara and Jerry about starting your own lavender garden.Such a nice outing for one of the rare sunny days we have in the Pacific Northwest.
