A JBLM military friend of mine was heading into Tacoma for the day for a doctor's appointment and had to take her kids. She wanted to do something fun with them as a reward for being good during her doctor's visit.I suggested the Port Defiance Zoo.Funny thing was, I had never actually been to the zoo.So, for spring break I took my kids.Beautiful! The zoo is pretty small; in about three hours you can see it all, but the grounds are immaculate, and the view of the Puget Sound from the overlook is spectacular.
The aquarium here is as large as the Seattle Aquarium at a smaller entry price - plus you get the land animals to boot. You won't want to miss the Wild Wonders outdoor theatre. The staff presents an array of unusual animals that are trained to come in and out and greet the guests.Bucky, their beaver, can be seen on a leash taking a walk around the park.Too cute! And, speaking of cute, the snow leopards have new cubs. You can watch the keepers feeding and interacting with them throughout the day.The food in the cafe wasn't bad, either.Sweet potato fries are a lovely addition to your meal.
If you're planning a visit, go to the website and buy your tickets there. You will save several dollars a person buying online.
